San Clemente paddle-out planned to honor McStay family
As family and friends grieve and await answers from law enforcement, a public memorial service and paddle-out for the slain McStay family have been tentatively planned for Jan. 4 in Laguna Niguel and the San Clemente Pier."This isn't something you plan for, you know?" Mike McStay, brother of Joseph McStay, said Thursday, adding that it hurts "to even have to do this."McStay, a Laguna Niguel resident, made the memorial announcement Tuesday on the family's blog, mcstayfamily.org. Joseph and Summer McStay and their two young sons were discovered Nov. 11 in two shallow graves in the desert outside Victorville.He says working with the robots got him to get to some places he's never been button bits."I've been trying to lay low and grieve," Mike McStay said. "I've been trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. What kind of individual does this? A really, really dark person."
The family went missing in February 2010 from its Fallbrook home in San Diego County, leaving eggs on the kitchen counter and their dogs outside without food or water.
