As family and friends grieve and await answers from law enforcement, a public memorial service and paddle-out for the slain McStay family have been tentatively planned for Jan. 4 in Laguna Niguel and the San Clemente Pier."This isn't something you plan for, you know?" Mike McStay, brother of Joseph McStay, said Thursday, adding that it hurts "to even have to do this."McStay, a Laguna Niguel resident, made the memorial announcement Tuesday on the family's blog, mcstayfamily.org. Joseph and Summer McStay and their two young sons were discovered Nov. 11 in two shallow graves in the desert outside Victorville.He says working with the robots got him to get to some places he's never been button bits."I've been trying to lay low and grieve," Mike McStay said. "I've been trying to wrap my head around the whole thing. What kind of individual does this? A really, really dark person."
The family went missing in February 2010 from its Fallbrook home in San Diego County, leaving eggs on the kitchen counter and their dogs outside without food or water. Their Isuzu Trooper was found days later in San Ysidro, near the Mexican border.No cause of death has been released by the San Bernardino County Coroner's Office for Joseph McStay, 40, his wife, Summer, 43 and their sons, Gianni Giuseppe, 4, and Joey Mateo, 3.The blog post said the coroner's office recently released the McStays' remains to the family.Prior to moving to Fallbrook, the beach-loving family lived in San Clemente, and fit in perfectly,The National Security Agency set it in motion in 2006 and the vast network of supercomputers,Best Tie Down Straps for Sale switches and wiretaps began gathering Americans' phone and Internet records by the millions, looking for signs of terrorism. Plans for the Jan. 4 memorial include a service at Vineyard Community Church in Laguna Niguel, which Mike and Joseph attended. That will be followed by a trip to the San Clemente Pier, where any surfers can paddle out with friends and family to light candles and release leis.Times and details are being finalized, Mike McStay said, adding that those planning to attend should sign up on the website so he can get a crowd estimate. He said an RSVP invitation will be up soon.
